Email issue - Translates internet email address to full name

Hello all,

Since upgrading to 8.5.1 quite some time ago we have noticed an odd problem that some users are now beginning to complain about. I’m not sure if this is something new in 8.x or if this is a setting that has been changed/needs changing, but I thought I would throw myself at the mercy of the notes forums to see if anyone could help.

When creating a new email message you type ‘john.smith@ibm.com’ into the recipient field, but then when you hit enter or enter a comma to enter a second user, the internet email address just type disappears and is replaced with ‘John Smith’. If this is an external customers email address, this results in a delivery failure message saying that the “Recipient’s Domino Directory entry does not specify a valid Notes mail file”.

Is there anyway for us to set things so it doesn’t convert internet email address’s to full names apart for organization ones?

I’m not sure if this helps:

When you reply to any external email, it automatically converts their internet address to a full name, so they only way to see what their internet email address is, is to go back to your inbox and preview/open the original email in read mode.

Thanks in advance, quite stumped on this one :frowning:

Subject: forwarded to development

Subject: May be related to 8.52 fix for spr TTAN7P7QG6. That problem was internet address from contact marked as “other internet mail” should not be converted back to Notes address

Normally in Notes if the internet address can be found as a Notes address, than we use the Notes address to prevent unnecessary mime conversion. This was broken in 8.0, and fixed in 8.51. In 8.52 we added the check to make sure the MailSystem was set to Notes before converting back.

You can prevent the address conversion from happening by setting Notes.ini “TYPEDOWN_LEAVE_AS_SMTP=1”

Subject: Same problem in iNotes 8.5.2

How i described in Design Partner Forum, i have this issue on 8.5.2 and 8.5.2 FP1 in iNotes.

I think that the problem is in forms.nsf, because i can copy a old forms.nsf back and do not have this issue, but then i miss some preferences options.

Regards

Chris
