Eclipse disappeared local application & other problems

The Eclipse DDE ate my homework today.

I’m running 8.5.1 FP1 on Windows 7 64-bit and have had sporadic bizarre happenings in the DDE since I installed 8.5.1.

Often the screen gets a case of the jitters, like it’s constantly polling something, and won’t respond to cursor or keys, and crashes eventually if I don’t shut it down pre-emptively.

Sometimes, I’ll open up an agent or script library (LS or JS) and the code will be totally gone. I’ve been able to perform some random magic before to get the code back (Project clean, shut down Designer, shut down Notes, who knows) but not today …

I was just doing normal editing in the Designer on this local Db, copying elements, renaming elements, modifying elements – I don’t recall the exact thing that sparked this. I went into edit one of my script libraries, and it was empty, opened another one, it was empty. Then my agents had totally disappeared, not even there at all. Shut down Designer & tried to re-open the Db using right-click > Open in Designer but nothing happened. I manually opened up Designer, then was able to re-open my Db but still the same problems. I shut down Designer again.

Somewhere along the way, I looked in the file system but the Db was gone … poof! [I am quite sure I did not delete it.] I did a search on my hard-drive & only found pointers (or probably corrupt images) in my AppData\Local\Temp folder. No messages in my log.nsf to indicate what happened, no nsd dump, no xpages.log info.

Luckily for me, I won’t have to commit hari kari because I had a current replica of this Db on the server and was able to retrieve all of my work. If that hadn’t been the case, it would’ve been 2 months’ work lost.

My lesson learned is always create lots of backups of your work, particularly if you only work locally.

Has anyone else experienced such a drastic temper tantrum from the Eclipse Designer?
