Easy Designer question

I am creating my very first Database on my own and have a quick question.

I have a row the has the Time/Date field, 2 combo boxes called ActivityCategory and ActivityDetail, and finally a text box named Attendees.

Inside the ActiviyDetail Combo box I have “Number in Attendance” as a choice.

What I would like to happen is that the Attendees text box be hidden until the user choses the “Number is Attendance” choice, then the text box will become visible.

Now, in the attendees text box I checked the Hide paragraph if formula is true - ActivityDetail != “Number in Attendance”

and I have checked in the Combo box to refresh fields on keyword change. What happens is when I preview the database in Notes, none of the fields are visible. If I uncheck the Hide paragraph if…then everything appears, including the Attendees text box.

Can someone please help me out and tell me where I am going wrong?

Thanks

Hi,

The hide/when is active for all elements in that row. Place the difference elements in different rows.

Thanks

Hi Joseph,

The ‘Hide Paragraph…’ selection does exactly what it says - hides the entire paragraph when the formula is true, so even though you may create the formula in the hide-when for the field, the paragraph includes everything from the paragraph break before the field, to the next paragraph break after the field. Paragraph breaks are usually determined by new lines (when you press enter on the keyboard). You should notice that when you set the hide-when on your Attendees text box, it sets the hide-when on everything else on that row as well.

In your situation, I would suggest using a table with each field in a different column. That way, you can still have everything on the same row, but each column becomes a paragraph which you can then hide without affecting the rest of the row. You can set your table to have zero width cell borders so that the user doesn’t know that the table is there.

Hope this helps!

Emily.

Hi,

Hope this helps:

Check that each cell/row does not have that hide condition.

Make sure the field is the only element on the form that has this hide command.
