I have a problem: when I connect to my mail database using HTTP, the server asks me for the username and password once. When I do the same for HTTPS, the server does it 3 times, the first one for “/mail”, the second one for “/iNotes” and the third time for “/”. Is it possible that the server asks only once for HTTPS?

You need to create an authentication realm document for / for the Domino website.
When you authenticate you have /iNotes directory and down, but not up, so any application you attempt to access in the servers data folder that requires authentication and is not in the /iNotes path (and likely there are none), it will prompt for username/password.
Check the admin help file under
Index/Realms/authentication and/Users are prompted multiple times for their name and password
In admin client go Config tab, expand Web, open your website document (create if not there - fqdn of your Domino server) and then from that doc you can go to the actions menu and click on the Web Site action button and you’ll get the option to Create Authentication Realm. add a short description, put a “/” in 2nd bucket (for Domino data folder level) and put any label for the realm label, I just use another “/” here.
tell http restart and test.

I have the same problem as the origianl poster but your solution does not solve my problem. Your post and the admin docs referenced are clear but I cannot get rid of this problem. I am just using DWA with no other Internet sites. As per your directions, I created the website document and the subsequent authentication realm doc but to no avail. Running Domino 7.1 on RHEL 4 if that makes a difference. Any ideas on what I might look at?
Thanks,
Daniel
