DWA 7 Deployment Query

Hi, I would like to test DWA for a number of users.

I have tested internal DWA access on a 7.0.1 client using a 7.0.2 enterprise server with preloaded (during the install) DWA - all is working successfully.

My main issue is for DWA from an external source outside of the company.

I have found various informational sites including a IBM paper called Securing a Lotus Domino Web Server which I found very helpful.

My query is what is the most recommended process to allow DWA from an external source (e.g an internet kiosk) through to our internal notes servers ?

I have been informed from colleagues that a server will need to be placed either inside the firewall or on the DMZ to act as a gateway between our internal servers and the internet. How does this server work though ? Ie does this server provide the rendering required for the web from the mail file on the internal mail server ? I’m presuming that we don’t have to have replicas of the mail files present on this DWA gateway server for users to access (as this wouldn’t be suitable for thousands of users) …

Can anyone provide some information on my best course of action ?

Thanks for any help its very much appreciated.

Matt

DWA is a mailbox, which implies having a user account. Any DWA user would have to log in, regardless of whether they are an employee or an external user.

If you are willing to use a Notes license for an external user, then give them an account, and they’re all set.

Or, by “DWA”, do you mean “web access to one or more custom Domino application”? THAT will require a secure Domino Web Server, and it will have firewall and DMZ issues.

Hi Thomas,

I’m talking about Domino Web Access and I’m trialling it for a small number of existing Notes users.

I’ve setup myself (as an example) by replacing my normal mail template with the dwa7 and then testing access via a web browser within my office and all is working ok.

My issues now are for myself to access my mail file from a web browser outside of the company (eg an internet kiosk, internet cafe).

Thanks,

Matt
