Duplicate results in Domain Search

We’ve been experiencing a problem which other users previously reported with R5, where Domain Search returns duplicate results - i.e. multiple rows in the search results output, each corresponding to a single document, even for single instance databases with no database/document replicas present.

The best problem description in R5 was from Stephanie Buchner http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/46dom.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/f4c244f83ba3ce29852569d9006a7dc9?OpenDocument however neither she, nor any of the other sufferers, posted a solution to the problem. Does anybody know of one?

Subject: Apparent solution, FWIW

We never did understand the cause, but we noted that there were many duplicate Domain Repository documents in the Domain Catalog, also that the Domain Indexer was running for long periods of time with high CPU utilisation. We guessed that maybe the domain index was corrupt, so we deleted the Domain Catalog and ftdomain.di folder from the indexing server, rebuilt the catalog and index, and the problem has gone away.
