Duplicate Emails SMTP Timeout?

Good Morning.

Alot of users on our system are receiving duplicate emails in there inboxes. These emails typically have large attachments 3mb+ sometimes and are generated by external emails. Each message has the same message ID and when I do a trace it seems to only appear once in the message tracking.

We have alot of mail traffic going in and out of our 2mb leased line in one day (8GB+)and also know that the duplicate emails issue is probably caused by the senders mail system not receiving a flag from our system that the email has been recieved and so is resending the emails.

This is very frustrating because it is using bandwidth which is at a premium for us.

Looking on the web there was a notes.ini setting where SMTPtimeouts could be increased does anyone know if this is valid for Domino 8.0.2 and if so could this help for my issue?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: not sure but…

I am not sure if SMTPtimeouts is still valid - I can’t find it in the R8 help anywhere. Also not sure if it would help. But it sounds like it couldn’t really hurt, considering. I’d give it a try.

You might also want to thing about restricting, or lowering, the max message size. (Messaging Configuration, Router/SMTP, Restrictions, Maximum Message Size) If you can prevent receiving larger messages, then you’ll have better results with the smaller ones. This does create legitimate complaints from the users, but perhaps that will filter up to the decision makers and get you more bandwidth.
