I have heard complaints from users that they sometime receive e-mail sent to groups twice or more… Upon closer look, it appears that one copy of the message is in notes and the others are in MIME format. All have a different notes id.
This happens when a user sends an e-mail to a group which he’s a member off using the group SMTP address e.g “testgroup@acme.com”. When someone else in the group replies to all, the senders notes address is added in the To field and the group’s SMTP address is added to the cc field. The original sender will receive the e-mail twice. Once for being in the To field and second from being a member of the group. Now If the same e-mail was sent using group’s notes address “testgroup” , only one copy of the message will be delivered.
Lotus support tells me that this is working as designed but as more of more people use the mobile devices to send mail, likely hood of sending / receiving duplicate will increase. Most of my users tend to save user’s / group addresses on their devices in SMTP format so this issue is not going to go away unless Lotus corrects this soon
I’ve tested this on Domino 6x, 7x and 8x servers with same result. Is there another workaround that I’m not aware off.
