I have exported all mail files to a text file using the load convert command. Can anyone tell me how to modify this text file on an Iseries? Even when I copy it to my desktop I can’t read it. Thank-you.

I am having the same issue. The crazy thing about it is that even though the file isn’t in a legible format, domino can still read the file. Here is an example of what mine looks like:
”‰“a“¥…™¢–%”‰“a“…¦‰¢%”‰“a¥––‡„%”‰“a‚¤
Are you having similiar results?

That is in AS/400 format … EBSIDIC and can be converted to ASCII for PC, using any FTP tool.

I couldn’t find the answer but what I did do was to run the DST agent from my local database. This way, I could put the mailfiles.txt on my local PC (c:\mailfiles.txt). You won’t be able run “load convert -L” on the server to get the file but you can create the file manually and put the list of databases in it.
Hope this helps.

How did you create the file manually?

Found the answer–using green screen & wrkdomsvr can just edit the file! Thanks Chris for your responses

Just FYI - the reason you can’t read it from a PC is that the AS/400 uses EBCDIC, and PCs use ASCII. Business computers were around long before PCs…
Dragging and dropping the file from the 400 to a PC doesn’t do any conversion, however, you can use FTP to transfer it and the conversion will be done for you.
As you found, you can edit the file using green screen; from a green screen, you can also use ‘WRKLNK’ (work with object links) to transverse the entire IFS.

I shared the folder for read only, mapped a drive, went to a command prompt and did a dir > filename.txt
Than I used excel to modify.

You can also use microsoft word. Just set word to “confirm conversion on opening” in the options. When opening the text file, you can scroll down the list and find ebcdic coding. Works like a charm!
