OK… the customer has patched (or so they say!) all the 2003 servers but not touched the Domino servers, mail databases, etc. Is there a way to deploy the DST changes to these servers in a centralized fashion? …Db -w- agent, etc.? I just cannot see someone going to each server and running the mail agent + other Domino changes. Would take forever… just curious what other people are doing -w- large #s of Domino servers. It sounds like (except the legacy notes.ini variable) that not much needs to be done to the Domino server… except a restart to use updated DST from OS. The issue is updating the clients/mail Dbs? There are a bunch of users/Dbs still on 4.6x and 5.x… will the agents even work? Any thoughts on this and centralized deployment? I’d like to help them… BUT want to be realistic. People are getting desparate re: DST!
Subject: DST & 100 Domino Servers
Hi Michael,
First, for R5 entries (And surely R4)
Warnings:
There is no technical way (due to the limited information stored in the R5-created entries) to know if an R5 entry was originally created before or after the operating system was updated, which means the agent will adjust all R5 entries regardless of whether they were created after the system was updated. This will result in even “correct” R5 entries (those created after the system was updated) being adjusted, with the effect that they will appear an hour earlier than desired.
There is no technical way (due to the limited information stored in the R5 created entries) to differentiate certain non-US/Canada time zone entries from US/Canada time zone entries, and as such it will assume an entry with a similar GMT offset is US/Canada and will reset it to a US/Canada time zone and will adjust it. For example, there is no way to tell a Mexico City entry from a Central US/Canada entry. The code will change the Mexico City entry to Central US/Canada.
For the central database, I use the agents provided by IBM but instead of generating a flat files, tweaking the agents with true or false variable,
here, I have developped a Notes database. You can process mail dbs on a scheduled basis, on selected servers or selected users.
Sorry it’s in french ![]()
You need to select what you want:
Schedule
On a scheduled basis, you need to deploy the database on the desired servers. You then have to enable the agents. It will process every mail dbs on that server.
Manuel way
The list comes from the NAB. You can choose ONE, multiples servers or “Select All”.
For every selected servers, I go in the NAB for each users located on those servers.
When the process is done, we have a log of every documents processed.
I keep the server that was processed, the mail file, FistName, LastName, a doclink on the person’s document. Also, I keep information about who launched the process. Also, I keep track of how many documents were processed in every mail files.
Process users
If you want to process a single or multiples users. I have a form where you need to specify if you want to processR5 docs, send reschedule and stuff like that. Then, you have to choose one or multiples users from the Peoples view from the NAB.
Every user’s mail is open one by one
In all 3 scenarios, you can send them a special email(Mail template message) to tell them that you have process their mail file.
Mail template
You can choose the name of the template, the subject of the message and the Body of your memo. This Body is sent to every users in the list.
For the reservation db
For reservation db, the process is similar. You have to choose where your reservation database is.
You can select if it’s on a R6 or R7 server. A validation is done for design elements just in case a user tries to update a R5 db.
After the process, a log is kept of every actions.
Errors
In every db, there an errors logs kept. It’s from the OpenLog of Julian Robichaud. I keep a link of the Notes db and if possible a doclink on every problematic entries form the mail files or RR db.
