Download attachments

I need to provide a button to the user to download attachments from a notes document on web, I also need to do process the attachments after downloading, Is there a way to do this using Javascript?

Basically, I like to store the MS Word document templates in the configuration document, and then with the click of a button, would like to download the wordtemplate on users client and do the mailmerge. btw, it is a browser based app.

I think you would need somekind of exe application if you want to fully automate the download and starting the mail merge from a web browser.
