Double Right Click to Close

I’ve always had my client configured for double right click to close the document. Ever since 8.0 it’s been very flaky at best. When I double right click in mail for example in the body, 90% of the time it doesn’t work until I do a double right click on the stationary graphic. 8.01 same behavior and certainly now in 8.5 beta. I’ve also tried it on Vista and Ubuntu with same results.

Subject: hmmmmm, interesting…any pattern?

I’m also a “double right clicker” and running on XP. I haven’t noticed a particular issue and certainly not at the rate you report. We’ll take a look to see if there is something going on with focus.

With a 90% occurrence rate for you, I suspect there isn’t a particular pattern, but let me ask anyway - does it occur if you open a mail, scan it, then close it? Or more if you open a mail, something else happens (go to another document, respond to a dialogue box, interact with the side shelf, etc.) and then come back to the document?

Any other pattern of action that causes it to happen more frequently?

Are other “double right clickers” seeing this?

Subject: No pattern noticed on double right click

I just opened 5 new e-mails. Didn’t scroll through them or anything. Only 1 of them did the double right click worked when I clicked anywhere in the body.

Subject: I see the same thing

In other documents (such as this forum), the context menu takes about 1/2 second to appear. These documents can be closed with double-right-click.

In an email however, the context menu appears noticeably quicker, so I don’t have time to click twice before the context menu appears.

Where it does work on an email: letterhead graphic, subject line, line above subject line, Swiftfile line if enabled (prior to reading this thread, I just assumed it was broken in mail and stopped trying !)

So, Double right click is a feature that worked in Notes.

Double right-click still works on:

Any regular old Notes form (like a mail message)

Any regular old notes view (like, your custom app)

IT DOES NOT WORK ON THESE:

A Java view (that would be the Inbox, Calendar, Contacts

A non-notes window like a symphony editor or the embedded browser

Yes this is inconsistent. I was actually going to remove the right double click functionality because we did not have time to make it consistent. However, since there was such a tremendous hue and cry, we decided to leave double right click for the areas that work.

At this time, it does not fit in the plans to provide double-right-click on these new windows.

Subject: Double Right Click… same

Noticed it mainly with the new Mail design and anything else with similar design.

When in bespoke apps, and others like Knowledge Base, works fine.

We noticed it in Windows and Linux.

Subject: RE : Double Right Click to Close

I found a Tech Note stating this, and it is because of the javery browsery thingy in the body of the message.

Works if you double right-click on the header where the addresses are.

Can’t find the Tech Note at the mo.
