'Don't maintain unread marks' DB Property

A Notes db was created with the property ‘Don’t maintain unread marks’ checked. A few days later, it was found that the property was unchecked. Between this time and when the db was created, the only server command that apparently ran was ‘compact -B’. (A log file is no longer available to confirm this.) However, according to the link below, only ‘compact -u’ will result in the unchecking of ‘Don’t maintain unread marks’.

Other than having this property unchecked manually or in a replica db, is there some means by which the ‘compact -B’ might have caused this property to become unchecked? For example, is it possible that ‘compact -B’ cannot run initially against a new database and defaults instead to ‘compact -u’?

Thanks.
