I’m thinking that many users here simply do not have the time or patience to mentor you directly. So since I was and still am I nb to domino in many respects, here is my recommended resources:

  • use the domino help!

There are domino help books within both the Notes, Designer, and Administrator clients (click the help menu) This advice would sound lame in many cases I know, however lotus help is EXTEREMELY well documented and worth reading! Don’t think for a second that the answer cannot be in the help because often times, it is.

  • set up a test lab and start playing around

Any questions I have are usually quickly solved with a few simple tests. Often times while it seems like this is time consuming (and it is) it’s still the quickest way to your answer.

  • post here only when you’re truly stuck

I don’t generally post here but for 2 situations:

a- I’m still researching and I’ll post a question in hopes for an answer in a day or 2 (never expect or hope an answer will come quicker, it might often not, and that’s for many reasons not necessarily because nobody wants to help)

b - I truely do not know where else to look, in which case someone will quite often point you in the right direction.

Of course now and then I feel like I take more than I give so I like to post something for the nbs like me. Good luck!

All of us at one time or another could have benefited from a mentor. I think if I did not have the mentor that I had, I would not be where I am today.

I will help were I can. For what I do not know, I will ask the many Admins and Developers that I know…

Feel free to contract me with your questions…

I can tell you this, you are much more likely to get answers to your questions when you

  • tell what you are trying to do,

  • tell what specific steps you are taking to achive your desired end result,

  • tell what actually happens,

  • describe how that result differed from what you expected to happen.

That last is more important than it might sound at first. Sometimes what you expected to happen is not what was actually supposed to happen.

In a past life I did software technical support and I can tell you that everyone who was prepared to answer questions 1-3 above got their issues resolved very fast; everyone else could be waiting a while.
