Does this have to do with the calendar issue and Yahoo! Slurp? I know there were some excessive bandwidth usage numbers because the Yahoo! Slurp didn’t know when to stop slurping calendar views.
Subject: Yahoo Slurp Pounding my server
I am having a problem with Yahoo Slurp. You mention the “known” calendar / slurp issue but on searching the 4/5 forum, 6 forum and the web for such a known issue this is the only post anywhere I can find that comes up for slurp. Our server is getting 10 hits per second (extrapolate that out to many thousands per day if not hour) from slurp. We saw continuous traffic on our router for more than a month. Last night we installed some packet sniffing software and found continuous requests from Yahoo slurp for URLs that don’t exist on our server. They all had to do with a website that has a calendar view on it. It is the only website we host with a calendar view. Our server was responding with a 200 response so nothing was logged. We moved the db and site off of the server. Now our server responds with a 404 code. Since that generates a Lotus exception error we see thousands of errors scrolling across the console every hour. It is a continuous scrolling of error messages. How can we find out more info on this “known” problem. How can we stop it. Will it stop with the 404s? Note: the 404s have been running continuously for 7 hours with no let up.
