Domino Webmail, what template?

Hi,We’re looking at a webmail rollout for our call center and from what I’ve found there’s 2 options. One is to use inotes which would be the inotes6.ntf template. The other is Domino Webmail but I don’t know what the template for this would be. I’d hazard a guess at the mail6.ntf template file but can someone confirm this for me.

Many thanks

Jase

Subject: Domino Webmail, what template?

Domino WebMail is iNotes. Renamed when stepping into R6.

Have not had a look at the other templates to see what they look like on the Web. All have alternative design elements that are optimised for the web.

iNotes is quite different from the client look, so some companies do not like this. But it has most functionality ready for use. Although this makes it harder to modify.

Subject: “Domino WebMail is iNotes” is NOT correct

Domino Web Access is “iNotes”. Domino WebMail is accessing the “normal” mail template via a web browser.

The licence pricing is strange though as its cheaper to go for Domino Webmail than it is iNotes Messaging (£19 vs £35). Based on this I’d have thought the web client to be different.

Subject: RE: Domino Webmail, what template?

“Domino Webmail” is NOT the same thing as iNotes (or Domino Web Access/DWA). Webmail’s what you get when you access the normal Notes mail template via the browser, and it’s pretty basic. iNotes/DWA is a much more comprehensive and functional UI.

Subject: RE: Domino Webmail, what template?

Even though its late, i hope some one would see this… I have a basic question in licensing. We are running Lotus Notes/Domino 6.5.1 and most of the users are using Notes client and Domino Web mail. To start using DWA do we need to have a seperate license or its just a matter of refreshing my mail db with DWA template??

Subject: RE: Domino Webmail, what template?

Right then so if we bought a Webmail license then it would be to use the mail6.ntf template based on what your saying?

You learn something new every day !!I’m too used to leaving Licencing to others.

Couldn’t find too much info on WebMail. God knows how they can tell if you use an iNotes template or not. They actually state that the iNotes6.ntf supports Domino Web Mail, as below.

But the standard template is probably what you should be using. (mail6.ntf)

(From Admin Help Documentation)

Domino Web Access (6) template (iNotes6.ntf)

These templates support the Notes client, Domino Web Access client, and WebMail.

Note Do not apply the iNotes6.ntf template to a Notes 5.0.7 or earlier mail file. The mail file may not work properly.

If you upgrade a mail database created using Domino Release 4.57 (mail45.ntf) to domino Web Access 6 (iNotes6.ntf), users will not be able to save preferences.

(From Admin Help if I remember correctly)

Domino Web Access clients and Web mail clients

Users with mail files on a Domino server running the HTTP service can retrieve and send mail from a Web browser. All mail-related tasks and actions are transmitted to the server over HTTP and performed by the server.

From a Web browser, a user accesses mail using either the standard mail template or the Domino Web Access template (iNotes6.ntf). Users whose mail files are based on the standard mail template can interact with mail on the server but cannot store mail locally.

Users whose mail files are based on the Domino Web Access template and who use Internet Explorer as their Web browser can use the Domino Web Access mail client. On servers running Domino Off-Line Services (DOLS), Domino Web Access users can create a local mail file replica and work offline. Changes made to the offline mail file are replicated to the server the next time the user connects. Users whose mail files are based on the standard mail template cannot access a local mail file replica from the browser.

Enable the HTTP service for Web clients to use the Domino server for mail.
