Is there a way to look at webpages locally in Notes 6 without having the Designer client installed as you could in R5 ?

“web services” is a little misleading

Basically, all you have to do is start the nhttp.exe task. Search this forum and the R4/5 forum for “nhttp and localhost” for further info.

Hmmm. Possibly not, I’ve never had a non-designer installation ever
I wonder whether the client licensing permits you to install the nhttp.exe file in a client-only installation, and whether it would work if you do.
If you try it, please let this forum benefit from the outcome.

It seems to me that nhttp.exe was only installed with the R5 Notes client if you selected an install option (“Web Services”, which may explain the subject line of the original posting). If the option is still available, you may be able to get it by using the MSI, which can reconfigure and/or “repair” an install without requiring you to completely reinstall Notes. I don’t know if merely having nhttp available will do the trick, though – as far as I know, the “preview” menu options are provided by the Designer client.

I know in R5/6 that if you launch a preview for web from the designer client that it will launch the nhttp.exe as a service. I normally bypass it and launch it directly by running c:\notes\nhttp.exe before launching the designer client. It will ask you for the username/id of the last person signed into the notes client on that PC. Once you have supplied that however nhttp serves anything not requiring a signon. You don’t even have to have designer open to serve the pages as long as nhttp is running.

That’s not as much help as you’d think – content creators (as opposed to developers) would like the ability to preview the current document in the browser. From the Notes client (with preview enabled), there are no navigational issues (which view, by key or by UNID, etc.). Running nhttp.exe as a stand-alone puts all of the navigation onus on the content creator.
