Domino vs Exchange Front-End for web mail

Hi,I’m working at a Lotus site with a bunch of ex-Exchange admins and they want to implement web mail (iNotes). They don’t want connections in behind the DMZ, but they also don’t want databases replicated into the DMZ. For securing access to iNotes there’s SSL, Reverse Proxy, and DWA Redirect, but I’m not aware if there’s anything comparible that can be done with Domino that meets the security that they say Exchange Front-end/Back-end servers provide. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,

Mike

Reverse Proxy Server:

You can find some others by searching for “DWA and DMZ” or “Domino Web Access and DMZ”

From what I know of the Exchange front-end/back-end configuration, it is fine, but nothing magical. I can appreciate the administrator’s apprehension with regards to MS servers and exchange on the WAN. And, they are rationally going to lean towards what they are familiar with.

That said, doing DWA via HTTPS through a well configured firewall that accesses a Domino server in the DMZ (which then replicates out the back to another Domino server on the LAN) isn’t a terrible solution. Sounds like that is a non-starter in your situation, however. That leaves you with the Reverse Proxy.

Thanks Mike, looks like reverse proxy is the only option then. Cheers.
