Domino Utility server won't start as a service!

I’ve installed a Domino Utility Server on a machine running VMWare on a Windows 2k server.

The Domino Server won’t start as a service, not even the configuration to get started. It will run as an application though (the choice you get when first running the server).

I’m tempted to configure it after starting it as an application, but ultimatly want it to run as a service so that it automatically starts and isn’t linked to a user profile.

Is this a problem with VMWare, maybe Domino Utility server or maybe I just need to reinstall it???

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ross

I haven’t a clue as to why this would happen, but what would make you want to run Domino under vmware?

Why not run Domino under VMware?

  1. It’s supported

  2. Can save on hardware costs

  3. Can make it easy to have very effective Disaster recovert

  4. Easy to move Domino from one physical hardware platform to another

  5. Great for testing, taking snapshots, trying different memory etc.

There are many good reasons for running VMWare.

I agree with Carl that you can certainly run this under VMWare.Perhaps your service didn’t get configured correctly. Maybe it’s not pointing to a correct notes.ini for instance. You can always re-define the service, using ntsvinst.exe. See this to get an idea about the syntax: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/0/3920549ff6d2319185256fd40074039e

Subject: Messages from Event Viewer

These are the messages in the event viewer when trying to run it as a service, there are 3 seconds between each message.

The Lotus Domino Server (first folderftppeopleData) service was successfully sent a start control.

The Lotus Domino Server (first folderftppeopleData) service entered the running state.

The Lotus Domino Server (first folderftppeopleData) service entered the stopped state.

The Data directory is on e drive where the domino installation is on c drive. The data directory is also a few folders deep, but that shouldn’t make a difference.
