Domino Utility Server Licensing - Questions

I’m trying to understand whether or not going with Domino Utility server licensing is a) Feasible for our environment. b) Economical as compared to our present Enterprise licenses.

We do not use Notes mail any longer. We have an application-only infrastructure. Presently, we are also moving the development of many of our applications to the web. I have done some reading on DUS but have questions. One of them is, does the use of NRPC mail routing from an application to our Exchange mail system notifying a user of some action required of them in a Notes application construe “Mail” usage which DUS licensing does not support? If so, then we will need to stick with what we have currently. If not, then maybe we can lower our TCO by switching to DUS licensing. Can someone here help clarify this for me?

Cheers

Subject: My understanding is that if user mailboxes are not present on the server then you are eligible for Utility/Utility Express.

Subject: Thank you Erik

I wasn’t sure how the licensing worked. I know that it requires a Notes collaboration license for the end user accessing the server via the Notes client. This could be a very attractive option for us as we are in the process of web enabling some of our key applications. The removal of licensing requirements for our customers accessing the system via the web would be great! I’ve placed a call to my IBM representative for him to do a cost analysis against our current licensing to see if this will result in lower TCO.

Cheers,

Miguel
