In our environment, we have an admin server and 2 other domino http servers (in the DMZ). All servers are at 8.0.2, and I want to upgrade the 2 http servers (to use xpages) before I upgrade the admin server. Is it OK to do that? Can I upgrade the NAB (or do I even have to upgrade it)? Any help would be appreciated.
Subject: We upgraded the addressbook
At the time we upgraded our first server (in our case it was the admin server) to 8.5.1 we upgraded the addressbook too. The only exception was that we have a 7.02 server for Sametime and a 5.x server for Fax. Those run old designs (design replication disabled).
No problems so far. Only thing is that it seems that some actions in our admin tool (like movind databases) don’t work correctly anymore. But not verified that the addressbook is the reason. As this is an old tool and we are on the move anyway this is no big deal.
Subject: Still looking…
Thanks Harald, but unfortunately, that doesn’t answer my question. Can I upgrade servers, other than admin server?
If so, do I have to upgrade the NAB template?
If upgraded the template, would it still work on 8.0.2?
Subject: Backward Compatibility
The Domino Directory is backward-compatible, so you can run it one code release back and have it supported - meaning that it would technically be supported on a 7x server (and it most ikely would be fine on a 6.x server). As noted above, Quickr, Quickplace and Sametime are sometimes particular about the version of the directory. Domino mostly doesn’t care.
And yes, you can upgrade servers other than the admin server, although that’s not the preferred order. you might want to disable the replication of templates to avoid UI surprises on the 8.0.2 servers.
