Domino thinks recipients lastname is Notes Domain name

Last friday we enabled smtp mail to our new Domino 6 server (we were on Exchange before, we did not use Domino 5). Friday mail was coming in nicely. This weekend the server ipl-ed, since then, we are ubnable to receive mail:

“No route found to domain XXX from server AAA/BBBN. Check Server, Connection and Domain documents in the Domino Directory.”

Were XXX is the recipients lastname. Off course we checked the Global Domain document (there was none, so we created one). But:

1- This seems to reference outgoing mail

2- Domain separator is %-sign, not period

3- Notes domains isnclused is None.

NTW: Outgoing mail works fine.

Any ideas anyone?

Subject: Domino thinks recipients lastname is Notes Domain name

Hi Fred.

Are we talking only select users, or across the board? Do the users in question have a last name equal or similar to the domain name?

I had a customer with a similar problem on R5, which I solved by setting the following line in NOTES.INI

SMTP_LEFT_DOT_NEVER_DOMAIN=1

Go to the R4/R5 forum and search for this variable - it might still work for R6, or you may be able to specify it in the configuration settings.

I had this same problem on an R7 Domino deployment and the notes.ini variable SMTP_LEFT_DOT_NEVER_DOMAIN=1 solved the issue.
