Domino server rename

Hi,

We have a busy web facing application server that is due for replacement. I was initially thinking of doing a clean install of domino, but then re-using the old server id and it’s respective dbs so as to replicate the current set up.

However, the developer in charge of the application has asked if the server can be renamed as well now. Would I be right in thinking that if I created a new server id with the new name, by simply importing the old server key into the new ID I could get around any access problems that the new server would have with the old dbs?

Is this a good way to achieve the h/w upgrade and rename, or should I be doing something else? I’ve read about the Find Name feature in R6, so could I achieve the clean up (substituting the new name for the old one anywhere it appears) using this?

Any comments or advice greatly appreciated.

I would created the new server ID. Make sure that the new server has a similar configuration as the old server. If this a web server, you should not worry about access issues since the url to the server is independent from the host name.

Thing that you should watch out is weather the db has the server name specify in any url links.
