it’s been awhile since I worked with Notes/Domino up to release 4.5 or 5 but now I wanted to give it another try.
Being more than happy that my old account is still active and I even remember the credentials ;o) I downloaded the only bundle available for my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 box in RPM format. Unpacked the tarball, installed all 5 rpms and wooosh, there was a client. But no designer nor the server.
Searching the forums didn’t yield any answer so I’m going to ask kind of a beginners question: is there a 8.5 server out? Is it available for Linux systems?
Thanks a lot from a Notes fan since the good old days on OS/2
Yes, Domino 8.5 server supports both SLES 10 and RHEL5. I am not sure where you got the client from but normal business partner channels should have the server available. We have had a Domino server for Linux since Domino R5.02.
Subject: it’s tricky to find the Domino download you need
Starting with Notes 4.6 the Domino server is a separate install. It’s no longer bundled with Notes. The same goes for Domino Designer, it’s been a separate application since 5.0.
Go here:
Click the “Local install using Download Director or HTTP” link.
Log in using your IBM ID.
Select the first entry, “IBM Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 Multiplatform English Trial eAssembly”, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Continue.
Fill out the marketing page and click Continue.
In the list of downloads you want this one: “IBM Lotus Domino 8.5 Linux for xSeries English Trial C1SD4EN.tar”. IBM’s line of Intel servers is called “xSeries” and they assume everyone knows that.
No problems running it on CentOS5 or even Ubuntu 8.04 LST server. Designer unfortunately has to be installed on Windows. At least we have got VirtualBox and Vmware! If you can stand the Designer in basic mode then it kind of works with Wine.
