Domino server console through Windows terminal service

Hi,

I use Windows terminal service (mstsc /console) command to login to the machine of Domino server. I am unable to see Domino console on some servers, whereas it works fine on others. Do you know if there are any Windows Terminal service configuration which decides if Domino console is to be shown or not?

To add some more information, Domino server runs as Windows system service. So I can’t see Domino console even if I am logged onto server machine. So only way to see console is mstsc /console.

TIA

If the service is not set to run as the localsystem, then the console will not appear. This is well-documented, and there are many valid reasons for doing this.

I suspect that this is the case with some of your servers.

Thanks Peter for your reply. I compared details of Windows service setup for Domino on both machines. Both have same settings: Logon as Local System option is checked.Allow intereaction with desktop option is also checked.

So no difference in service configuration.

Anything else I should check?

Thanks,

Guess I misread your question. You will only ever see the Domino console when connected to with /console. That’s just how it is.

You can also use the admin client to access the console.

Apart form that, most people seem to prefer to run the Domino Server with the JavaController option anyway and use the remote console. Adds some more comfort too, like the ability to shut down the server and then start it again (in addition to the restart option) as long as the JavaController still runs.

Infact, I always use the switch /console with mstsc command. But this switch has no effect (it doesn’t show Domino console) on some servers.

I have compared the Windows service setup for Domino server. It’s same.

Should I be comparing Windows Terminal Service Manager settings as well? I tried that, but couldn’t find anything interesting over there.

Thanks,

What kind of OS are you running on your Domino servers?Windows 2000 Servers does not allow the /console switch.

Ah… now I know what was wrong. Some of the servers are Windows 2000, and rest Windows 2003. It was only on Windows 2003 servers the console worked.

Thank you Peter, Harkpabst, Ermanno for your help.
