I have 1500 R5 Client accessing Domino Clustering (Server 1 and Server 2) running NT4.
I can only upgrade Server1 or server2 at a time. What is the procedure to upgrade the Notes clustering to Domino R6 and windows 2000 as the operating system.
In addtional, i have about 50 database, 20 are customize database, how do i ensure user are still able to access the database in R5 format. I’m afraid that after upgrading to R6, the compact task will compact to ODS 43. Howerver, the server compact task must run as normal.

I’d do one at a time.
First, upgrade server 1 to WIndows 2000 with server2 still running. Let that run for a week and iron out any problems, but leave the Domino install untouched. Then upgrade the other server to Windows 2000. Make sure you get the lastest service pack/patches when you do (I had no problem with at least SP3 on my Domino 5 servers; SP4 came out after I upgraded to 6).
Then, when all of that is settled, start the upgrade to D6, one server at a time. The clustering will continue to work, though you should follow the instructions in the redbook Upgrading to Lotus Notes and Domino 6.
As for the compact - if you run the task with the -R option, the ODS won’t get updated.

I could not find any document on how to upgrade a cluster server to R6. The link which your reference does not contains any cluster document.
Assuming if i upgrade both server to Win2k and then one server upgraded to R6 and the other remain R5, what is the implication and what are the things that i should take note?
Last but note least, in the notes domain, there are two other server which are not cluster, should i replicate address to other server

Yes, feel free to replicate the address book around - it is fully backwards-compatible. Make sure, though, that you upgrade your admin server first (the one designated as the administrative server of the names.nsf database).
As for the clustering - it’s not specifically mentioned because it’s not much of a concern. You don’t need to remove a server from a Domino cluster to upgrade it. The only difference you’ll notice is that you will remove the clrepl and cldbdir tasks from the ServerTasks= line in notes.ini (along with Event and some others), as these are automatically loaded by the server if that server is a member of a cluster (same as the way the SMTP inbound task loads under R5).
Do go through that book, though, and make yourself a checklist that is specific to your environment. I found this to be extremely helpful during the upgrade.
