Domino/Notes user rename problem

I have renamed a user by going to the Tools pane, selecting People and then Rename. For example, I want to rename a user from James Bond to James Bond-Smith. The process worked well and the Person document seems to be updated with the new information.

The user can send messages but it is being sent with the old name in the message header and the Reply To header is also the old address. I have tried to change the name of the database in the database Properties view but that did not solve the problem.

I registered a new user with the new name and then I changed the mailfile location in the new Person document to point to the original mail database. That did not solve the problem either.

Any ideas? Did I follow the correct procedure?

Subject: remote or local

Is the person using a local replica or server replica? If local, then the user never authenticates with the server and the process may not finish correctly. However, if you go into tool → preferences of the mail file, you should be able to change the owner to new name.

The user database is a server replica and I did change the name on the database properties. The strange thing is that it is still reporting the old name in Notes.
