For the past few weeks I have been having sporradic name resolution issues with Domino.
First, internal resolution failures for other Domino servers. This in particular seems to be happening with 3 new servers I installed a couple of weeks ago. First, users start getting delivery failures citing that the destination server cannot be resolved. If I head to the console and do a “trace ”, indeed I get a failure. However I’ve figured out that if I do a “trace ” it connects and recognizes the server on the other end. Then from that point on, I can now trace by the name, and everything starts working again. This seems to sometimes reset itself when the server is restarted.
I also get similar issues connecting to external mail servers. Initially I thought I resolved this by populating the NameServer key in the tcpip service in the registry, but there still seems to be the odd occurrence where this has no effect.
Are there some known funky name resolution issues with Domino? I’ve also noticed it gets very cranky when a server’s IP address changes. The other servers can often take days to recognize the new IP.
