I have received reports from our network admin that one of my Domino server (6.5.1) is issuing an close connection (RFC 221) even with a QUIT command. (Has not yet been issued.)
Anybody is aware of this problem?
Is this a documented regression?

Is there more in the log files? Have you tried with SMTPCLIENTDEBUG=3 in the notes.ini?

According to the network admin, (his server) the client SMTP’s log shows a disconnection response from the Domino SMTP task preemptively.
RFC states that the receiving SMTP (Domino) should reply a disconnection only upon receipt of a QUIT command from the client SMTP (Windows server with SMTP service).

not really sure but maybe they’re triggering a policy rejection? would the server send a quit after that or would it expect the sender to understand the rejection code?

good point, but the domino server is question is very much open. all internal servers are pretty much allowed to relay.
