Has anyone change the Domino Directory database name? Does it have any impact?
Subject: domino directory database name
I tried this once, back in R5. I figured that for security reasons the Directory should have a different name. It worked in part by setting the NAMES parameter in notes.ini, but some tasks would not work, especially the http task wouldn’t load the web sites configuration documents.
You’d also have to consider all agents that has names.nsf hard coded.
All in all, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Sorry, I was no clear. I meant the title of the database, not the file name. I really do not think there will be any impact.

You can change the title of admins database as what you want, but never change the file name.
names.nsf is called by notes.ini, but it is not a good idea because it is a convention, and if you need to leave your conpany for a while, your replacement risks to have some “white hair”.

In my experience this is something that you should not do. Many important System databases need the directory and they all point to names.nsf. I also believe the server will not start if the directory is not called names.nsf
