Domino Directory and Traveler

I’ve been looking through the threads on using the Domino Directory with Traveler and didn’t see the answer to my questions. Is it possible yet to use the Domino Directory with Traveler? If not, is there any talk on when it will be usable?

Hi Joseph,

It looks like Traveler just lets you sync the contacts from a directory to your mobile device. So you’d always be using the synched contacts, no matter what. Now, if those are just your PERSONAL contacts, and not the names from the Domino Directory… that could be a problem. You could try creating a Condensed Directory Catalog on your Notes client (see the documentation) that contains all the Person/Group documents from the public Domino Directory and see if the names from the CDC will get pushed over to the mobile device’s contact list when you do a resync.

I’m not familiar enough with Traveler to know exactly how the synching mechanism works.

It depends on what you mean by “use”.

Do you mean the Traveler server looking things up in the Domino Directory?

Do you mean the Traveler client having the entries from the Domino Directory in mobile devices contact list?

Do you mean the Traveler client being able to lookup something in the Domino Directory (without it being in the contacts on the device)?

I can tell you some things:

  1. The contacts that Traveler syncs to the device are the Contacts stored in the user’s mail database.

  2. The Domino directory is not stored in the device’s contact store because that is just too much data for the device.

  3. Looking up an entry in the Domino Directory remotely (from the device) is not available in Traveler 8.0.x and is being considered for a future release.

I was talking about option 3 of looking up a name from the domino Directory on my remote device. Example: I wan to to send an email to someone in our company but am not sure of their email address. I would use the domino direcotry to do so. Hopefully in the future releases, the Domino directory will get synched.
