Domino delivered message to wrong person

Yesterday I had a weird one. Person1 send a message to Person 2 however Person 3 received the message and Person 2 did not.

Person 2 and Person 3 do not have anything in common (i.e the names are not even close).

When I checked the sent mail of Person1 to show that he sent the message to Person 2 and there is no mention of Person 3 in any of the fields of the document.

All three people are located on the same domain and server.

Any ideas or should I chalk this up to a fluke?

Well, I had a similar issue, but the users did have similar names. The issue was the way Domino does the name lookup for delivery – it uses the $Users view in names.nsf to determine who to deliver the message to. And, it normally stops on the first match found.

Yours very well may be a one-off, but mine was sporadic, no pattern or apparent reason for it occurring.

Do you have the internet address field populated in the address book? I didn’t, and when I put in an internet address for the two people, the problem stopped.

Lotus also suggested modifying the way name lookup is done in the server configuration, but I didn’t want to go that route unless I absolutely had to.

Hope this helps.
