Domino as a fileserver

Does anyone use domino / notes (using teamrooms maybe) as a fileserver for their users ? Or is it a totally stupid idea ? :slight_smile:

I had a small customer that used its Domino server as a file server. You must be sure to set up the server’s OS security so that users cannot map a drive to the Domino server’s data directory. Otherwise, security is completely bypassed. However, this solution is not recommended. Hardware is cheap; by a second server to use as a file server.

Domino should not be used as a file server - for many reasons, security in the first place.

These are Domino applications;There may be files in there, but this does not mean this is a “file server”. File server is accessible thru the OS, Domino should not be.

So go ahead - use it, that’s what Domino is for.

I once used a hammer to drive a screw through some drywall… It worked, kinda sorta, but I wish I had used a screwdriver…

take a look at a product called DNFS, i think it was killed off though. it might do what you want.

i think it was supposed to act as a ‘windows’ type shared drive using notes security or something, not entirely sure.
