Domino and Exim Relay Issues

Hi all …I posted the following below on Exim’s user forums and I got the following reply. Can I get help from my Domino Friends.

Thank you all in advance.

ORIGINAL POST:

My users are having a particular issue in sending e-mails to 1 particular verizon email address from Lotus Notes. The recipient never receives emails from our company. However if I send the Verizon recipient a email from the Exim Command line he does receive it. Any help with this ill be much appreciate.

BTW- The verizon email address can email inbound to our company with no

problems.

You’ll need to ‘capture’ a full copy of the offending outbounds, then work with

the Lotus admin to fix this.

From a long-ago problem one of the world’s top accounting firms was having,

(Exim not involved save that one of my ‘heavily intrumented’ R&D Exim’s was a

recipient, and able to find it from log details) there are Lotus configuration

options that break RFC’s badly enough to justify far-end rejection out-of-hand.

Your direct send would of course have none of these issues.

I don’t recall what they were specifically, but once supplied with the evidence

the Lotus admin was able to change his config and eliminate the problem entirely.

I don’t think Exim could otherwise have easily ‘repaired’ their faux pas for them.

Their response doesn’t make much sense to me, but none-the-less. Are you using Exim as an outgoing/incoming SMTP proxy/gateway? I don’t see from your post where Exim comes into play in your environment.

Assuming, yes we use EXIM as both our incoming and outgoing SMTP gateway, then configure your Domino server to route directly to the Internet rather than EXIM for outgoing e-mails. tell router update config from the console. Then send the Verison user and e-mail. If the user gets the e-mail the problem is either the transfer from Domino to Exim, or Exim routing to the Internet.

Let me know.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your response.I agree it does not make sense. The funny thing is that we can send to other Verizon E-mail. But not to 1 particular person. But when I send him a email from Exim he gets it …Anyway I tried your solution and currently waiting for a response. I will keep you posted.

Thanks Again ,

Jeremy
