Domino 8 server on vista? Not possible?

I have UAC turned off…

I did a search on the forums for this and noticed it had been asked before, but did not see a answer or workaround other than installing ms serv 03 virtual machine? Has anyone found a way to make this work or is it just not going to be possible?

Subject: I agree with Chad

Not a supported system, so good luck with it. Your best bet, as you alluded to, is going to be a virtual system of some kind. I’ve had the best luck with VMWare Workstation, esp. since it supports more OS’s than Virtual Server.

Subject: the problem is really the MS license

The client OS licenses (XP, Vista) have lots of language for not allowing server software. You can make it work unsupported sometimes, but IBM does not test on it.

What I would do is set up VMWare Server free edition on your desktop/laptop, install XP, and install the server.

Will give that a shot. Thanks for the suggestion. I was not aware that there is a free ver of vmware.

Subject: Question

Why do you want to install Domino on a client operating system? This is not a supported configuration. Is this just for testing purposes?

Subject: for testing only

Yes, I was just wanting to have it for testing and to get more familiar with it before having to roll it out
