Domino 8 Failover and other queries

hi there

I’m pretty new to Domino and Notes but I do have a rather interesting (or at least i think it is) query.

Hypothetically, if I were to have two Domino 8 servers in two different locations (lets say on opposite sides of town). Both these systems are on the same domino domain, but different organizational units (the main purpose of this setup would be for high availability). All mail databases are replicated as well as various Domino-based collaborative applications.

I would want users to retrieve mail and collaborate on site and off site to a server in one organizational unit, but if that server were to fail or go down due to a power out (or anything else that could potentially take down a server), then I’d like them to automatically fail-over to the next organizational unit on the other side of town without any hassle whatsoever.

Another query that I have is would it be possible for a use to have multiple mail files? One mail file would sit on one OU and another would sit on another OU. Both mail files would retrieve mail from different accounts and essentially replicate between OU’s and give the user access to both mail files without any hassles?

Is it possible to set Domino 8 up to do wither or both of these queries? If so, could someone please outline steps that I would need to take to make this happen, or just a basic explanation on either or both being pssible or not, and why?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Shaun

Subject: I guess what you look for…

is a) a cluster (but you would need quite some bandwith between the two sites, and you have to check licencing, as Express is not enough for this.)and

b) it is possible to run multiple Mailadresses on different servers into databases that are replicas (and therefore the same Maildatabase). To do so, look at Mail In Database documents. However, sending an answer it would be in all cases the same person.

Alternatively you could have two user ids in both OUs, and therefore you could switch the location once you want to reply with the other name. (I would be not aware of a way to switch the user based on the recipient of the mailfile)
