I have 4 Domino servers running on one LPAR our “i” (System i, i5/OS, AS/400). I upgraded one of them to 8.0.1 because we can run multiple version on this platform and 8.0.1 is required for Quickr 8.1. But now HTTP won’t start on the upgraded 8.0.1 server because it says I need to update to Java 5 which the release notes verify. However, Domino 7 requires Java 4. So my question to IBM was should I be able to upgrade to Java 5 and have my Domino 7 and 8 servers all get along? They said probably, but they were noncommital as you’d expect. There “might” be some issues with the HTTP server for the Domino 7 servers…no guarantees. So has anyone tried it? Are there any issues that I need to be concerned about?

We have a mix of 8.0.1 and 7.0.3 servers running on our iSeries with no difficulties. Make sure 5722JV1 options 6 & 7/8 are loaded.

Yes I tried the notes.ini JavaUseClassicJVM=1, but that only helps if you’re using a different option of the Java 5 install.
I believe Java 5722JV1 option 8 is recommended, but if you install Java 5722JV1 option 7 you need to use JavaUseClassicJVM=1.
Gerald, are you suggesting this from an actual experience of running Domino 7 and 8 concurrently on an “i”? I am trying to find those with the same environment.

I didn’t try that under your circumstances/configuration. When I upgraded our one server to R801 we had to use that string since we didn’t have the media yet for 5722JV1 option 8.

Yes, you need Java 1.5 installed for Domino 8.01.
Running both Domino 7.x and 8.0x Domino servers on the same System i machine is a valid configuration. If there are any problems, one should open up an incident with support. I can’t speak about a production enviroment, but within the lab we have both Domino 7.x and 8.0x servers running on the same machine.

ThanksThe support tech that dealt with my PMR didn’t want to commit to this being a “supported” configuration and suggested there “might be issues” but with your advice and others I have installed 5722JV1 Option 7 and all is well.

Just to clarify, yes, mixed environments including v6.5.x, v7.0.x, and v8.0.x versions are 100% supported.
