Domino 7.03 to 8.0.1 upgrade fails

I’m doing some testing with upgrading to Domino 8 on our 7.0.3 application server. Using a desktop system with Windows XP, I installed a fresh copy of Domino 7.0.3 and restored a copy of our production application server from backup over it. I’m now attempting to upgrade to 8.0.1 but I’m receiving the following error:- JVM not found

  • The device is not ready (21)

I was originally installing from CD but since switched to installing it directly from the Hard Drive.

Does anyone have any experience with this and could provide assistance?

We did a similar upgrade and all went well. Uninstall Domino, restart and follow this process:

  1. Visit java.com and ensure you have the latest java installed.

  2. Create folders for Domino (eg. c:\domino and c:\domino\data)

  3. Restore a copy of your “production” data folder to the newly created data folder (eg c:\domino\data)

  4. Install Domino 8.x to the newly created program folder (eg. c:\domino)

  5. Launch Domino

Hope this helps.

I also got the Error

JVM Not Found

I was installing a domino 8 server on a Windows XP box (don’t ask why).

However I was installing from the @TEMP folder. It was the @ coursing the problem. I renamed the folder and it installed fine.
