Domino 7.0.2 on Windows NT 4 problem

I tried to upgrade my Domino 7.0.1 server running on Windows NT 4.0 SP6a to 7.0.2, and the server doesn’t start after upgrade - it gives error “The procedure entry point CreateToolhelp32Snapshot could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.DLL”.Any solutions/workarounds than changing the OS?

As of Domino 7.0, Windows NT is no longer a supported platform. Since MS isn’t updating it anymore, Lotus can’t continue to support it. I think you got lucky with your 7.0.1 install, but it looks like that’s as far as it’s going to get. Windows 2000 is supported, as is 2003.

I fully understand why WinNT is not oficially supported. As well as workstation versions of Windows like Windows XP. But Domino works fine on much more platforms than oficially supported (for example, various distributions of Linux beyond those few listed in release notes). And I wouldn’t wonder if 7.0 from the start wouldn’t work on some old platforms. But this happens to be a second point release.

Right - but you’re talking about working vs. supporting. Since this point release isn’t working for you for a specific technical reason, you don’t have much wiggle room. IBM won’t help with this. Others have gotten alternate OS’s to support Domino in the past, but those were open-source platforms like Linux where someone could potentially change the OS to make it work. Not so with NT.

Is this a production server?

NT4 is not a supported platform for Domino 7.0 (as I found out first-hand!). There is a technot about this: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg21216000
