Domino 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 performance

We have been experimenting with the 64 Bit version of Domino R8.5.1 and R8.5.2 on Windows 2008 R2.

In both cases we have only had about 150 – 200 mail users using the servers but the memory usage seems to be very high (for Domino). Typically its up around 5.5 – 6 GB.

We have enough “physical” memory in the box (its actually a VM) to cope with that and memory is cheap, but that seems very high compared to what I would have expected from Domino 32 bit / Windows 2003. It certainly caught me out when I first sized the box with 4GB as it just soaked that up.

We will be significantly increasing the number of users on the box (more like 750) so was wondering what experiences others have had with the 64 Bit version of Domino? Does it just like to grab memory? Or memory wise does it just have a much higher initial footprint than the 32 bit version did??

I would be interested in feedback on what sort of memory usage others are seeing so I can gauge if ours it “out of the ordinary” and to get a better feel for sizing servers.

Thanks.

Subject: the problem is with Windows

we just were fighting a similar configuration. I did not follow close enough the story to know all the details, but in the end it was all about patching and configuring Windows not Domino. Qne of the patches was:A computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 becomes unresponsive when you run a large application - Microsoft Support

well and it is running on VM as well. was anything on that level as well?
