L.S.,
At this time, we have two older Domino servers (4.6.7 and 5.0.10) for mail only.
We want to start developing new applications, integrating with a legacy iSeries application and database.
Some of the new applications we’re considering:
-
web application for technical information of products, combining images, links to PDF documents and legacy data
-
issue tracking system for the IT department
-
tracking of complaints by our customers
-
team collaboration (e.g. doc sharing) for some workgroups
-
in the future: web portal for accessing these functions
We have one J2EE developer, who also has some basic Lotus Domino development skills. The other developers are iSeries RPG developers.
Which solution would you recommend?
** Lotus Domino 6.5 and WebSphere Portal **
-
Upgrading both servers to Domino 6.5
-
Develop the application mentioned in Domino, using e.g. LEI for iSeries integration
-
Using the TeamRoom template for the collaboration part
-
Afterwards, install a portal server to provide a central access point for all applications
** Lotus Workplace 2.0 **
-
Installing Lotus WorkPlace 2.0 (Messaging and team collaboration) with the rich client for the high-volume mail users
-
Develop the applications using J2EE portlets (using e.g. the ToolBox for iSeries integration)
-
Provide central access using the Portal Server available in the Workplace product
All ideas, suggestions, … are welcome
