Domino 6.5.6FP3 to 8.5 on an i5?

Hello,

I’m about to upgrade our i5 Domino Server from 6.5.6FP3 to 8.5 and I have a couple of questions.

The first is the domino directory. I don’t have control of the admin server and we’re part of a WAN network of various versions of Domino. We will be the first 8.5 upgraded server in the network and we have servers as old as 4.5 in the WAN. When I do the upgrade I’m not going to want to upgrade names.nsf, so am I given an option when the server first starts up not to upgrade that? Will I have any adverse effects from not upgrading it? (I know I may not get any new 8.5 features, but that’s okay.)

The second is it as simple to upgrade as it looks, install the 8.5 release on the i5 and then do an upgrade domino server command? Will all my clients, without upgrading to begin with, be able to access the server?

I know that’s a lot to ask, but I’m a little uneasy about this for some reason. We were the first to 6.5 way back when too and I had no problems, but …

After upgrading the server, when you first start the server an inquiry message will be sent to the domino console asking if you want to upgrade names.nsf. Reply “no” if you don’t want to upgrade (the server will not come up until you either reply yes or no).

You should review this document (and associated doc links), to ensure that your system is ready for 8.5. Need to ensure that it has all prerequisites PTFs and your system meets the hardware requirements. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=463&uid=swg27013148

Yes, all existing clients (without upgrading) should be able to access the upgraded server.

That’s what I thought, thanks for the response!

I’ve got everything but the proper version of Java, which has been a bit problematic in getting, but I’ll get it eventually.
