Domino 6.5.6 on iSeries V5R1?

I know V5R1 is no longer supported, but has anyone tried running Domino 6.5.6 on an iSeries V5R1 box? We have an old box in the office that is off maintenance and thought it might be worth checking into.

TIA

IIRC we ran R6.5.1 on V5R1. I would think that you could do it, but I have to ask why would you go through all the effort and without software maintenance, implement domino without the insurance of having support? I know iSeries is very resilient and downtime is minimal but did you consider Murphy’s Law?

If you are going to do this, might I suggest doing it right. Taking shortcuts and trying to save a few bucks will usually end up costing you more in the long run.

But then again it is an iSeries - you might be able to load it and go and it could run for years without problems.

One last thought: Are you going to be using domino for email and if so have you considered antivirus software? And if so how will you maintain your antivirus software currency with an operating system that is outdated and no longer supported by software vendors?

Yes, it should run on V5R1.
