We are running Domino 6.01CF on windows 2000 server SP2. This was an upgrade from 5.0.11. We did the upgrade 4 days ago. Yesterday our server just stopped running. We walked in to the server console and it was gone, vanished. I had to restart the server and it came up. There is nothing in the logs for Domino or Windows that could point to what happened. We are running the Nserver and not the nservice.
We are also having the problem with invalid documents in some of our mail databases. They are ODS 41.
Has anyone seen anything like this? I have a call open with Lotus and will post anything I get from them.
Subject: 3 Points to consider.
You should have SP3 on your W2K box.You should definately run (with the server stopped, Command window) “ncompact -C” to upgrade the ODS of your dbs to 4.3
You should find under the Data\IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT\ the .Log files from when NSD cleans up after a crash.

On top of the compact you should also run a fixup. We have seen many DB’s that will not compact as they are corrupt. R5 did not see the corruption. Some DB’s required 3 passes with fixup before they would compact.
You can turn on Fault Recovery in the server document to have the server restart when it crashes like that. Can save some time. The NSD process is much better than QNC was and does a very good job cleaning up after itself.

I have done the fixups that were needed. Lotus looked at my logs for both windows 2000 and Domino and they could find nothing wrong. I asked them about upgrading to ODS 43 and they said I should not need to do that to fix this problem. I didn’t upgrade the ODS during the server upgrade so I could roll back to R5 if needed. I am going to upgrade to ODS 43 on all of the databases when we have our next network down.
