I’m getting ready to upgrade one of two I-series boxes, both of which are running R5.010 on OS/400 V5R2. My question regards the order of upgrades. I’m NOT planning on upgrading the Administration Server first. What implications can (or will) this have? Even though it’s not recommended, will I still be OK? Due to compatiblity issues with R6 and Quadrant Software’s Fastfax (which resides on the Administration server) we are post-poning that upgrade until the software is in spec. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks…

The biggest impact will be that some AdminP requests won’t be performed as the other post indicated. You’ll also be missing out on using the CA to cert new users as well as other new features that you want to upgrade for - remember that many of the “cool” new features are Admin driven.
However, we had a similar need (SPAM) to upgrade a couple of servers in our domain prior to upgrading the rest of the domain and didn’t have any issues aside from AdminP. The one thing you will want to do is upgrade the design of the Domino Directory to the D6 format. It will run in R5, and without the UI issues that running the R5 on R4 had.
Another solution might be to move the Admin server to a D6 box if you can’t upgrade your fax box. Could you create a new server partition on one of the servers you’ll be moving to D6 and make that a new Admin server?

Impact: Some requests (new in ND6) will not be performed
But why do not change Administration server?
Is it really requred by software to be on Administration server?
