Does somebody really knows what $Collection and $Collation are for?

I can find those in view/folder design documents and I am guessing it has someting to do with the index or link list of Notes ID inside the view/folder but really those are just hypothesis.

Well, as far as I know $Collection holds the information for document selection, while each $Collation item holds the information for each possible sort order of documents.

But when I think about it, I don’t have any reference to where I got this from …
