Does Domino use the Windows registry, what is in it?

I’ve heard say that if you load the entire Domino components (like from a tape backup) on a clean server, as long as the ini is pointing to the right Domino path; it will just restart if you execute it. No need for registry entries. No need to reinstall and reconfigure Domino.

Is this true? I have a situation where the server operating system needs to be cleaned and resintalled and I want Domino to start as previosly

Subject: There is a registry entry

As pointed out, it does not affect the running of a Domino server or Notes client.

But third party vendors can use the registry to find out if Notes/Domino is installed and where it is installed. The Lotus installer also uses this registry value to see if you are updating your installation to a new version.

Look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes\7.0 in your registry.

There are also other registry entries for COM/OLE objects.

I’m pretty sure that it will work. But I also think that installer writes something to Windows registry and Notes also but it’s not imporant to run Domino/Notes.

Hi,

That’s right what you’ve heard. You can take this brand new clean system and just restore domino from backup.

But, I prefer to add a simple step to install it from the original CD (or file), then restore the whole backup. You have some registry entries used by domino, and some DLL’s (only a few, 6 I believe). Using the install trick you will put all the system running. Sometimes there is a need for some integration with the OS, like backup, anti-virus, etc…
