Document Missing for DocLink

I support a work flow application that sends out doclinks throughout the approval process. A document has “gone missing” as the user puts it. I’m having difficulty locating it myself. Surprisingly enough, the doclink in the original email still works and the user can access the document from there. I copied the unid from the doc properties, built an @All view sorted by Unid but I still can’t find the doc.

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Isabelle,

There are reasons why a document would not appear in an @All view. For instance, if the document in question is a profile document, it would not appear in an @All view. Another situation would be if you have soft deletions enabled and the document was deleted…those documents will not appear in an @All view either, because the DB thinks they are deleted (anyone know how soft deletion works with doclinks?)

I am not saying that’s the case here, but there are precedents. Not knowing how the workflow works and how the document “went missing” i would have a hard time saying what the problem is. I would think about getting a tool like NotesPeek and seeing if I can verify if the document is in there. Since the link works, it has to be. but it doesn’t necessarily have to appear in an @All view.

Any chance the document is a response whose parent has been deleted?

Thanks Stan but, no, this app doesn’t use response docs.

PS. Nice to see you’re back

If the doc link is to the doc in a specific view and the doc ‘leaves’ that view (as a function of its moving through a workflow), then the doc link will fail.

We have this problem with NDL files (we use Outlook for mail so doc links are converted to NDLs via COEX). I am not sure if the same problem exists for ‘real’ doc links but it might be worth a look.

As an aside, Doug, our latest version of CoexLinks (which you, affectionately I hope, refer to as COEX) allows you to specify a view to use for any db, so when a workflow db such as this is used, the NDL can point to a more general view that will always be accessible. Just an FYI, since it would be a free upgrade.

Sorry, CoexLinks… I’ll check out the new version; sounds great.

I gotta tell you that between CoexLinks and TeamStudio Analyzer/Best Practice, our switch from Notes mail to Outlook/Exchange and our upgrade from 4.6 to 6.5 was pretty close to painless. I work in a regulated environment and those two tools pretty much saved my hide. People talk about return on investment - I’d put it at about 4 hours on these products!
