Having trouble creating links in Notes client
to various files on a network drive. i.e., \server_name\share though this doesnt work!. Any idea’s?. Nothing at all happens when I create the hotspot…

You need to use a protocol to make a link (http:, ftp:, gopher:, mailto:, etc.). In this case:
file://server_name/share
(note that Unix-style forward slashes are preffered)
