Dock Icon

have been anxiously awaiting the public beta. The upgrade to my previous ‘private’ beta was completed without trauma and is working fine.

After only a few minutes of poking around, I was a bit surprised that the dock-icon issue was not resolved. I think this is a major oversight and will be an annoyance for the pure public beta. It is a very visible oversight that will be noticed by all of the mac users who will want to beta test this release as their daily client.

Just my 2 cents that this should have been fixed.

Subject: make sure you uninstalled and did a new install

pretty sure upgrading from one beta to another is not supported …

Subject: duplicate icon issue should be fixed…

Wondering if you still have a Dock icon made from the previous beta? Could try removing that and re-adding Notes to the Dock after installing the latest beta.

If that doesn’t work, please tell us exactly how/when you see the duplicate icon. Note that a second Notes icon will appear when the diagnostic collection process is running – you will also see a dialog about sending the crash report to IBM.

Subject: uninstalled

I did upgrade the first time without uninstalling. then based on this thread I uninstalled completely and reinstalled.

I still have the problem. Since I was in the regular beta I never used a dock icon because it did not work… so using an old icon is not the problem.

I launch notes through spotlight… then quit… and the dock icon turns to Java (terminal picture). If you click it again it just launches Java in the terminal. Same behavior as before.

I do not have a crash… so crash reporter is not popping up.

I’m not sure what more you want me to do… but I will gladly do it.

Subject: I have to say, this sounds an awful lot like the old beta…

When you see this behavior, choose Lotus Notes → About IBM Lotus Notes. If it doesn’t say “Release 8.5_M1,” it’s not the current beta.

Don’t think it’s possible for the Dock icon in public beta to say “Java.” If anything, it might say “eclipse,” but that should have been fixed.

When you say you launch Notes from Spotlight, do you mean you search for the Notes application, or search for Notes content that you’ve indexed for Spotlight? Do you launch a Notes document/database or the Notes application itself? If the Notes application, please take note of where the application file lives – the file path should be available in the Finder window where you did the search. When you installed the public beta, it should have ended up in /Applications (or under another folder called Applications if you chose to install it on a second drive).

Subject: Need your help

Chris,

Perhaps I am using the old beta… here is what my about says…

IBM Lotus Notes 8.5 Beta

Release 20080116.1352

Revision (Build VMac_Beta85_20080115_MM2) L-GHUS-78CPTC

Standard Configuration

But I uninstalled and re-installed. I’m not sure how to get rid of the old beta now.

Any suggestions?

Subject: Problem solved

Chris,

I cleaned out everything notes related and started from scratch. This time the install took. I can’t explain this.

I’m guessing there was some goofy permissions issue with the .plist files or such.
